A message from Governor Tasso during the 66th meeting of
the Iwate Prefecture COVID-19 Countermeasures HQ (November 30th)
Iwate prefecture
As of today, the number of new cases per 100,000 people in the prefecture is 846.4 and we are approaching our previous high of 925.9 people infected per 100,000.
Currently the burden on healthcare facilities is increasing. Spread of infection and close contacts among healthcare workers has resulted in an increase in healthcare workers who are unable to work. In order to prevent an increase in new cases and prevent straining our medical system, I ask of everyone to thoroughly practice infection prevention measures.
In addition to frequently washing their hands and wearing masks when appropriate, I ask for everyone to do the following:
・If you wish to have the Omicron variant vaccine, please get vaccinated as soon as possible.
・Please use air purifiers, and open doors and windows to ventilate spaces and control the humidity.
・Please prepare rapid antigen tests and fever medicine in case you are asked to home quarantine.
・When going to a medical center, if possible, please go on a weekday during the daytime.
Last week, the country’s Basic COVID Control Policy was updated with how to respond in the event of increased burden to the healthcare system. In accordance with this policy, in the event of increased burden to hospitals, and impediment to regular economic function within the prefecture, we will have to consider asking for cooperation with more cautious measures.
I ask of the citizens to continue to practice appropriate infection prevention measures in order to prevent this situation from coming to pass.
