A message from Governor Tasso during the 56th meeting of the Iwate Prefecture COVID-19 Countermeasures HQ (May 13th)
Iwate prefecture
In the first half of Golden Week, the number of new cases decreased to 109.4 cases per 100,000 people on May 6th as a result of schools and kindergartens closing. However, an increase in cases as a result of an increase in travel due to people returning to their hometowns has been seen. As of May 13th, the number of cases is at 167.3 cases per 100,000 people and while the numbers have not reached the levels prior to Golden Week, the cases continue to increase.
There is also an increase in cases where the origin is unknown.
In this situation, there is concern that there will be an increase in group infections with students and children returning to schools and childcare facilities, and in following, an increase in household infections.
I ask for the citizens to enact the following basic prevention infection measures:
- Refrain from sending children to childcare facilities or schools if they exhibit a fever or other such symptoms.
- Excluding children who find it difficult to do so, everyone should be wearing a mask while talking with others, especially when talking to the elderly or those with underlying conditions, even when in the household.
- Wear a mask when talking even while eating together
During Golden Week, there were also infections identified originating from barbeque parties. Please enforce the infection prevention measures befitting the situation.
If you wish to be vaccinated, please get vaccinated as soon as possible.
As the amount of children infected decreased during Golden Week, let’s continue to prevent and reduce the amount of infections amongst children in schools, childcare facilities and within households by enforcing the basic infection prevention measures.
From today (May 13th), the Iwate Food Support Project will resume. I recommend you use the restaurants that have been approved by the Iwate Restaurant Safe Practices System, which have infection prevention measures in place. I ask the citizens to use the Iwate Food Support Ticket and support the local restaurants while enforcing the basic infection prevention measures.
