Symposium – Protecting Foreigners from Disasters ~Multilingual Support in the Wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake~

Host: Iwate International Association/Co-host: Iwate University Global Education Center

2016.11.05 (Sat)   13:00-16:00/Venue: Iwate University Hokutou Hall

When a disaster occurs, foreigners who don’t speak Japanese are unable to get information on what’s happening, putting them in a vulnerable position. With foreign residents, the Rugby World Cup, the International Linear Collider, and an increase in tourists, Iwate is expecting an influx of foreigners from many different backgrounds. This is why we would like to take our experiences from the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami and collect different perspectives on what kind of support is needed to help foreigners.
