Special Chatland - "Know More About Poland!" -An Evening with Mr. and Mrs. Ambassador

Organizer : Iwate International Association, Iwate Poland Friendship Association, Iwate Prefecture

2012.03.08 (Thu)   18:30~21:00 / Place: Hotel Metropolitan Morioka, New Wing

Last summer after the Great Eastern Earthquake of Japan, 30 junior and high school students (of which 15 were from Iwate) from devastated areas were invited by the Republic of Poland to spend one month of their summer holidays recuperating in Poland.
Polish Ambassador to Japan and advocate of the project, Jadwiga Rodowicz-Czechowska, says that the project, named “Solidarity Bridge / Polish Vacation for Japanese Children”, will continue for the next 5 years.
The origin of this project dates back to 1920, when Japan and Poland still had no formal diplomatic relations. It started when, requested by Poland, Japan rescued 765 Polish orphans stranded in Siberia and in danger of their lives.
This genuinely compassionate act of goodwill widened a circle of goodwill. We would now like to, in response to Poland’s act of goodwill, invite Mr. and Mrs. Ambassador of Poland and hold a special Chatland event and express our gratitude to Poland.
As part of the event, Iwate’s Polish Friendship Association’s Yukiko Hirano and Polish Children’s Literature Translator, Kazuko Tamura of Kanegasaki, will talk about the various links and ties between the two countries.
