"OKAERI Project" Ofunato Exhibition

Organizers: Tokyo Bookbinding Club "OKAERI Project" Steering Committee / Cosponser: The City of Ofunato

2012.04.05 (Thu)   ~8th (Sun) / Venue: Ofunato Citizens Cultural Hall (Rias Hall)

The Tokyo Bookbinding Club will hold a project exhibition to make, as a gift, photo albums to hold the photos that were found amongst the rubble after the disaster.
We have named this project, "OKAERI Project". Just like recovery after a disaster is when everyone goes back to where they belong, this project aims to help return the photos to there owners.
When we called for donations of photo albums from our bookbinding friends from across the globe, we recieved more than 250 from over 14 countries. Bookbinders who make order-made books for booklovers, paper and writing instrument restorers, lovers of bookbinding and book artists wanted to give their support by sending albums that they had made with their own hands, and so their contributions were collected for this project.
We choose the finest paper, fabric and leather to put an album together. Then, when we put the damaged photos in the album, we say a little pray for the photos to get home safely.
And then we remeber that to save each photo required the cooperation of many people.
For all those lost in the disaster, each photo is just a small contribution towards recovery, but if it can return the smiles to many people, and foster international exchange, and spark an interest in the world of bookbinding, we would be very happy.
We hope that the "OKAERI Project" will be a seed of 'hope'.
